All Melissa ISD Campuses Rated Exemplary

Official ratings, recently returned to Melissa ISD by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), indicate that all Melissa ISD schools will begin the 2010-2011 school year with the TEA's highest accountability rating. The TEA rates schools and school districts academic performance based upon student achievement on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills each year and then assigns schools and school districts one of four accountability ratings. The highest rating attainable is exemplary, followed by recognized, acceptable, and unacceptable respectively.

Melissa High School Achieves National Project Lead the Way Engineering Certification

Melissa ISD recently received notification that Melissa High School has been awarded national certification for the Project Lead The Way program that it has been offering since the 2007-2008 school year. Project Lead The Way (PLTW), the nation’s leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education offers a rigorous curriculum that allows students to apply what they are learning in math and science class to real-life engineering and technology projects. A National Business Roundtable report states that to remain competitive in the global marketplace, America needs to graduate 400,000 science, engineering, mathematics and technical four year degrees annually, yet we are currently graduating only 265,000.  PLTW is providing students with a foundation and proven path to college and career success in these areas.

The national certification process also compliments the dual-credit and advanced college placement program already in place for Melissa High School students and affords them an additional opportunity to earn college credit while attending Melissa High School. Basically, the certification program recognizes schools that have successfully demonstrated a commitment to the quality national standards of the Pathway To Engineering program and provides an opportunity for students to apply for college credit at PLTW affiliate Universities for selected PLTW courses.  To learn more about Project Lead the Way as an organization and the program, simply click here.

Melissa Middle School Recognized Nationally as a High Performing School

The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) recently recognized Melissa Middle School as a 2009 Just for the Kids high performing school in Texas. The NCEA used two measures of analysis: growth and college and career readiness. Melissa Middle School was specifically recognized for student growth and performance in Social Studies.

As a result of the high levels of student performance, Melissa Middle School will partner with other high performing schools across the nation to identify patterns of core practices that continually lead to successful student learning and performance. The NCEA is working toward developing a Core Practice Framework that schools across the nation will use to improve student performance.
